Srilanka Vs South Africa 4th ODI Preview and Prediction

Hello all and welcome to Addi’s Prediction

ABOUT THE MATCH

In complete contrast to the longest version of the game, the Proteas took an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the One Day International series. It was once again a similar affair with the Proteas being brilliant in all departments and Sri Lanka committing too many errors. The two teams now meet at Kandy on 8th August 2018 and Sri Lanka will come out with a point to prove. South Africa, on the other hand, will be looking to try out a couple of combinations owing to the World Cup preparations. Although it has been a one-sided affair in the series so far, a nothing to lose situation might just ignite the spark in the hosts. It could be the thriller we all are waiting for since the beginning of the series.

MATCH PREVIEW

SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka failed miserably with the bat on the same surface where South Africa flourished. The team was looking to Niroshan Dickwells and Upul Tharanga to provide them with a solid start, but Dickwell departed soon as he found Faf du Plessis at cover. Sri Lanka were soon two-down with Tharanga back in the hut as well.

Mendis and Perera tried hard to keep up with the run-rate, but their stay at the crease was short. Sri Lanka lost Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, and Thisara Perera in quick succession which almost killed their chase. Late order heroics from Dhananjaya de Silva who was ably supported by Akila Dhananjaya ignited hopes of the wins as the duo added 95 runs for the seventh wicket.

The chase could have been possible had the pair stayed for a little longer. However, Akila Dhananjaya departed while trying to hit Andile Phehlukwayo and no other batsmen could support Dhanajaya de Silva’s quest. He was the last man to be dismissed as Sri Lanka lost by a big margin of 78 runs.

SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa haven’t looked back since they’ve come out on the field in the limited overs format. They’ve shown continuous improvement of playing against the spinners with the total of 363 in the last match validating that.

After being put into bat first, Hashim Amla continued to build from where he left in the last game and played a valuable role in the partnership with Reeza Hendricks. Hendricks was phenomenal with the bat as he scored fasted hundred by a debutant, taking just 88 deliveries. JP Duminy and David Miller both came good as they each scored a quick-fire fifty.

South Africa began in a terrific manner with the ball as they had five Sri Lankan batsmen back in the hut with target still more than 250 runs away. Lungi Ngidi rocked Sri Lanka back with the early wickets as he returned with the figures of 4 for 57. Just like the last match, Andile Phehlukwayo was also amongst the wickets, though a tad expensive. He returned with the figures of 3 for 74. The aforementioned placement were wrecker-in-chief of the Sri Lankan batting lineup and will play a key role in the remaining four matches as well.

TOSS PREDICTION

Win the toss and field first will be the way to go, considering it’s an afternoon start and dew might play an important role here.

PITCH AND CONDITIONS

It was a fantastic wicket to bat in the third ODI, and although it isn’t expected to be that road of a wicket, it will still be a good surface to bat on. There are good chances of rain and Duckworth and Lewis method might come into the picture. With the chances of dew and rain, defending won’t be an easy task. The team batting first should look to put at least a total of 280 on the board to stay competitive in the game.
